JOHANNESBURG – Airlink, the Southern African regional airline, will increase its flights linking South Africa and Mozambique with additional services between Johannesburg and Beira and between Durban and Maputo.
The extra services, which come on stream later this month, follow the Mozambique’s Transport authority’s approval for Airlink to operate additional flights along the crucial air corridors that link that country’s two port cities with South Africa.
Airlink Managing Director and CEO, Rodger Foster said: “Airlink will introduce fifth weekly flights between Johannesburg and Beira and between Durban and Maputo, letting business travelers, traders and commuters extend their business week and enabling them greater flexibility and convenience”.
A new Friday service between Johannesburg and Beira will commence from 27 March and will augment Airlink’s current services on the route. These operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
Airlink’s additional Durban-Maputo flights will operate on Thursdays starting on 19 March. Airlink currently serves the route on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
“Thanks to these new flights, Airlink will be able to satisfy its corporate customers who have been pressing us for a long time for more frequency and capacity on these routes. Mozambique is an important trade partner for South African and we are seeing increasing commercial development in the Northern areas of Mozambique. Airlink has been servicing Beira for almost seven years, stimulating economic growth by providing safe and convenient travel not only for South African and Mozambican businesses, but for travelers from around the world who enjoy seamless connections with our direct flights from the OR Tambo international Hub”, added Foster.
Airlink also operates a weekly jet service between Johannesburg and Pemba.
