JOHANNESBURG - we have received the following update from our executive management representative, who has just visited the hospital in Durban :
1. Capt Allister Freeman, is still in a critical condition. Whilst his blood pressure has normalized he remains sedated and is being treated for infections in his chest and foot. He may be returned to theatre tomorrow for a small procedure to assist the healing process, this is dependant on the decision of his attending Orthopedic and Plastic surgeons.
2. First Officer Sonja Bierman was today successfully transferred by air to a high care facility in Johannesburg. Here she will undergo further treatment as a part of her recovery process.
3. Flight Attendant Rudelle Oosthuysen, following her lengthy back surgery on Tuesday, is continuing to respond well. Her medical team are planning to move her tomorrow to the hospital’s Orthopedic ward.
4. The Durban Solid Waste employee, Mr Abraham Mthethwa, was able to sit up in his bed today and is recovering well.
Airlink representatives will meet again tomorrow with the medical teams attending to the patients. We continue to provide close support to the family members who remain in Durban.
