ACCIDENT - AIRLINK FLIGHT; Update #15 at 13h30

Airlink - Medical bulletin
Issued 04 October 2009

JOHANNESBURG - we would like to provide a further report on the status of our patients who have been undergoing various procedures this weekend:

1. Capt Allister Freeman remains critical and sedated. He still has the chest infection and the infection in his foot, over and above all of his other severe injuries. He is jaundiced, with both liver and kidney function impaired. He remains on a ventilator. Should his condition allow it he will be taken into theatre tomorrow to attend to the infection and clean the wound in his foot. We are very concerned about his condition and are monitoring it closely though our management staff in Durban, and his wife who is at the hospital most of the time. We were pleased to have been able to transport her sister and children to Durban for the weekend, to be with her.

2. First Officer Sonja Bierman was operated on again, in Johannesburg yesterday, to complete additional procedures on her left hand and right foot. She is recovering today but is still experiencing a lot of pain in her left ankle.

3. Flight Attendant Rudelle Oosthuysen continues to recover well, in the hospital’s Orthopedic ward. We are told that yesterday she even took three steps and is in good spirits.

4. Mr Abraham Mthethwa, is comfortable, recovering well and very chatty. He is keen to get out of hospital but obviously his treatment will still take a while.

An Airlink manager has remained in Durban during the weekend to provide support, when needed, to the family members.
