ACCIDENT - AIRLINK FLIGHT; Update #15 at 14h45

Airlink - Medical bulletin
Issued 06 October 2009

JOHANNESBURG – in response to queries received yesterday and today about the status of our patients we can report as follows:

1. Capt Allister Freeman; sadly his condition remains very critical and it was not possible for his medical team to move him into theatre yesterday, to attend to the infection in his foot and clean the wound. He still has the chest infection and is now on 100% oxygen. Our management will meet again with his medical team tomorrow to obtain a further assessment of his condition and treatment procedure. He, his wife and brother who are with him in Durban as well as his family, remain close in our thoughts.

2. First Officer Sonja Bierman has now been moved into a general ward and there are plans for her to begin physiotherapy and rehabilitation exercises in the next few days. We anticipate that she may be released from hospital some time next week.

3. Flight Attendant Rudelle Oosthuysen continues to recover very well, she is now receiving daily physiotherapy and exercising as a part of her rehabilitation programme. There is a good chance that she could be released by the end of the week and will then return to Johannesburg for further treatment.

4. Mr Abraham Mthethwa, is now mobile and is very active in a wheelchair, he is recovering well and will be asked during the course of next week as to the next steps in his rehabilitation treatment.
