INCIDENT – SA AIRLINK FLIGHT SA8625 – GEORGE

SA Airlink would like to update the status regarding its flight SA8625 operating from Cape Town to George which was involved in a landing incident at George Airport earlier today. The aircraft an Embraer 135 ( 37 seat ) regional jet is reported as having aquaplaned off the end of the wet runway.

The incident occurred at 11h06 local.

There were no injuries.
Update on 30 passengers and 3 crew;
- 23 of the passengers, after being offered counselling at the airport, departed with their family and friends.
- 7 passengers (including an infant) were taken to the nearby George Medi-Clinic for precautionary observation and have since been discharged.
- The aircrew were also taken to the Clinic. The first officer has a sprained ankle which was x-rayed. The crew have also been discharged.

Earlier media reports that the crew were trapped for an hour or more are untrue.
A CAA Incident Investigation Team are en-route to George, an Airlink Technical Team has also been despatched to provide support as required.
